Which route fits you?

NIOS admission streams, explained simply

NIOS offers more than one way in, depending on your situation. We'll confirm which one applies to you when you visit — here's the short version.

Stream 1 — Fresh admission

Open to everyone, including students who dropped out of or failed Class 9th or 11th elsewhere — you can enrol directly into NIOS 10th or 12th. Two admission windows a year (roughly Jan–Mar and Jul–Sep), with exams in April/May or October/November.

Stream 2 — If you failed a board exam

For students who appeared and failed (or couldn't appear for) Class 10th/12th from any recognised board. Admission opens ahead of the October exam, and up to 2 already-passed subjects can be carried over (Transfer of Credit) — so you only re-attempt what you failed.

Stream 3 & 4 — On-Demand Exam

For clearing individual failed or compartment subjects without waiting for the next full cycle. Exams run through the year, subject to seat availability, with results typically taking around 45–60 days.

Windows, exact dates and seat availability change every session — we'll confirm which stream applies to you and current timelines when you visit or call.
